The Historical Writing Club is your place to explore the past, gain access to rare historical records, and publish your own research with the support of mentors, museums, and archives.

As a member of the Historical Writing Club, you’ll be guided through the research and writing process from start to finish—with support every step of the way.

  • Monthly Meetings: Join us in person or online for research check-ins, writing workshops, and guest speakers.
  • Curated Research Topics: Each session, we’ll focus on a specific theme. You’ll explore real historical records tied to that topic.
  • Mentorship & Support: Work with museum professionals, archivists, historians, teachers and professors who will help guide your research and writing.
  • Access to the Member Portal: Use our secure portal to view digitized materials, submit drafts, and get feedback.
  • Publishing Opportunities: Your work may be published in newsletters, academic journals, museum exhibits, or community publications.

Current Topic

Each session of the Historical Writing Club explores a different historical theme using real records from partner institutions.

Fall 2025 Topic:
Industry in Central Jersey, 1900–1950

Students will explore how industry shaped the people, economy, and landscape of Central Jersey during the first half of the 20th century. Using photographs, maps, journals, business records and other archival materials, members will uncover the stories behind local factories, farms, inventions, laborers, and everyday life during this period of rapid change.

This club is about learning how to think critically, analyze sources, and express your ideas clearly—skills that will benefit you greatly in college and beyond.

All work must be written by you. If an essay appears to be written using AI, it will not be published.
