2022 was quite a year for The Wicoff House! Despite the challenges of the past few years, we were elated to have been able to host so many in-person events and programs (safely) for the people of Plainsboro! This year reminded us how lucky we are to be part of this town and celebrate its history. Here is a short recap of our achievements of 2022:
Events: We hosted over 10 events including a Sancranti celebration, Trivia/Puzzle Contest, Murder Mystery night, Haunted House Tour, SnowFest and much more! Thanks to our YAC members, each event was a success for all.
Junior Historians Club: Our JHC members (ages 6-10) had a blast learning about public history, solving museum mysteries, and completing fun activities while utilizing the museum’s collections and grounds. Winter season registration is still open! Register online at tinyurl.com/wicoffjhc23!
Youth Advisory Council: We now have over 50 active members of our YAC program! Throughout 2022, YAC developed and hosted events, created temporary exhibits, assisted in archival work, conducted research and helped organize our vast historical collection. They have changed the way every aspect of our museum operates and continue to ensure our museum’s sustainability and relevancy. Thank you YAC members!
Summer Teen Internship: We had over 25 teens at the museum this summer working on various projects including archival work, exhibit development, outreach and community relations!
Museum Workshop: On 12/3 we had a great turnout at our Teens in Museums Workshop where we shared information about our successful YAC program! It was such a pleasure to meet and chat with other museum professionals and discuss each museum’s successes and challenges to work through common struggles small museums face.
Temporary Exhibits: This year our Museum Interns developed 3 temporary exhibits to highlight Plainsboro’s history! These exhibits focused on Plainsboro’s Elsie the Cow, Women’s Accessories of the 19th & 20th centuries and Cooking & Baking Utensils – all located in Plainsboro’s Recreation and Cultural Center!
