When Catherine Britton Wicoff was living here with her son John Van Buren Wicoff and his family, the grounds surrounding the house were transformed from potato fields to carefully planned gardens. William Flemer Sr, founder of Princeton Nurseries, designed lovely herbaceous borders and planted several varieties of trees and evergreen shrubs. Some of these mature trees still remain, including an Aesculus Hippocastanum (Common Horse Chestnut).
